Red 21 (D&C Red No. 21) and Red 21 Lake are colorants used in the formulation of foundations, lipsticks, rouges and other makeup products. Red 21 is a color belonging to the fluoran class. The fluoran colors are characterized by fluorescence when exposed to light and tend to brighten the appearance of the product, in addition to having a red hue.
